Why scale matters in steam generators

Every steam generator heats water to produce steam — and wherever water is heated, dissolved minerals separate and deposit as scale. Calcium and sediment accumulate inside the generator tank over time, coating heating elements, restricting water flow, and forcing the unit to work harder. Reduced efficiency, inconsistent steam output, premature wear, and ultimately generator failure are the results of unaddressed scale buildup.

In hard water areas this accelerates significantly — a generator in a high-mineral-content water area can develop serious scale problems within months without a regular cleaning program in place. Most competing steam generator brands require periodic external manual descaling to address this. ThermaSol solves it from the inside out.

PowerFlush is exclusive to ThermaSol. No other residential steam generator brand offers a built-in automated inner tank cleaning system. Competing generators require external manual descaling — a process that takes more time, requires chemicals, and depends entirely on the homeowner remembering to do it. How PowerFlush works

PowerFlush uses household water line pressure and specially designed speed slots inside the inner tank to boost water pressure within the generator. As the pressurized water moves through the tank interior, it sweeps calcium deposits and sediment out of the system and into the drain — without any chemicals, external pump connections, or manual intervention from the homeowner.

A full PowerFlush cycle runs for 45 minutes in two phases:

Phase 1 — flush (first 7 minutes). Water flows from the steamhead into the shower drain, carrying calcium and sediment out of the generator tank. Brief your client at handoff that water draining from the steamhead during PowerFlush is normal — it is the system working as designed, not a malfunction. The shower enclosure door must be closed and no one should be inside during this phase.

Phase 2 — steam session (remaining ~38 minutes). Once the flush phase is complete, the generator automatically switches to a normal steam session for the remainder of the 45-minute cycle. The generator returns to standby automatically when complete.

Safety — brief every client at handoff. No one should be inside the shower enclosure during the PowerFlush cycle. The enclosure door must be closed before starting and must remain closed until the cycle is complete. This is in the ThermaSol manual and should be part of every installation handoff conversation.

When to run PowerFlush

ThermaSol recommends running PowerFlush at least once a month and at a minimum after every 1,000 minutes (16.66 hours) of usage. The generator tracks usage automatically and will prompt a PowerFlush when the threshold is reached — three warning sessions occur before the lockout, giving the homeowner notice before the unit requires a cycle to resume normal operation.

In hard water areas, recommend running PowerFlush every two weeks rather than monthly. The harder the water and the more frequent the steam sessions, the faster calcium accumulates between cycles.

Manual descaling every few years. PowerFlush handles routine maintenance automatically — but ThermaSol also recommends a manual descaling by a licensed plumber or authorized technician every few years to eliminate deep mineral deposits that may accumulate over time. Regular monthly PowerFlush cycles reduce how frequently this is needed but do not eliminate the need entirely on hard water installations. This is a service call worth noting at handoff.

How to activate PowerFlush on each ThermaSol control

ThermaTouch2 and SignaTouch

Go to Settings on the control. Select Start Power Flush from the menu and confirm. The cycle begins automatically.

MicroTouch and OneTouch

Press the — and + signs simultaneously and hold for 5 seconds. The array LEDs will flash in a clockwise direction to confirm the cycle has started.

TempTouch

Hold the up and down arrows simultaneously for 10 seconds. The status bar will go from right to left and light up Music, Steam, and Light icons to confirm the cycle has started.

Signature Series and Elite

Hold up and down arrows simultaneously for 5 seconds to enter Settings. Scroll to Power Flush, press Select, choose YES with up or down arrow, then confirm with Select.

What PowerFlush protects
